What’s stopping you from living your life the way you want to?
I am back with a vengeance writing a blog post, because I feel I have something to say. So many people give opinions, or make posts with lists, but often I think to myself, what is this post even about, and how will it benefit my life. I over think things, and I am constantly worried what do I need to do to help others, my current clients, my colleagues, my potential clients …and I realized something amazing; I just need to be honest and REAL. My friends, colleagues and clients always state to me, they like me for being blunt and up front with them, so I plan on doing that here; just like I do with everything in life.
About a week ago I posted a picture stating “What’s stopping you from living life on life’s terms?” and so many people responded with time, money, and then someone said “Nothing”. I thought that the word nothing was the most powerful thing that could have been written, yet it’s so funny, because how many of us avoid living life the way we want, or the way we think we should because we are afraid of something, and we just survive, avoid, or live in solidarity, rather than living the life we want and feel we deserve.
I know I felt that way at times, and I wouldn’t be human if I didn’t. We all have our moments of weakness, and moments of feeling as if we aren’t perfect, or on top of our game. Remember “to err is human”. We are allowed to make mistakes, and no one says we have to be perfect at all times. Even therapists have our “HUMAN” moments. I recently had a client say to me, you aren’t allowed to feel, you are a therapist, and I asked him why he would think that a therapist doesn’t have feelings. We are human just like everyone else, and our feelings’ though often are more contained, they still exist.
So what stops me from living the life I want to? Nothing at all!
I recently changed my entire life, and am living my dream, focusing on my private practice and gave up working for anyone but myself. Is this a scary choice, yes, but it is my personal journey, and so far it’s working, and I have an amazing support system that is emotionally there for me. So can you say the same for yourself?
At the beginning of each year, I do not make resolutions, I create goals, because they are more attainable and do not set me up for failure, and my #1 goal this year, was to focus on my practice, get trained in EMDR, and stay focused on my health and wellness. I have worked hard on each and every goal and have kept up with them. Most people do not keep up with their resolutions. So what about you? Did you make goals or resolutions, and are they working for you right now? If you answered no, or maybe, there is still time to change and work on them, since it is only February, and 2016 is not over yet!!! Remember it’s an entire year, not just a few months.
Where do you see yourself in 2016, and where do you want to be before 2017? How do you plan on living this year? Remember in order to live you have to experience the life you want without regrets. Sometimes life means, we just need to LIVE IT!!!!!
So again I ask, what’s stopping you from living the life you want for yourself? If your answer is anything short of nothing, think about it and look at the changes you need to make within.
